The story

In Selvi's words.

Selvi, Sumathi and Sundari learned sungudi from their grandmother — tie a thousand tiny knots in cotton, dip the saree in indigo, then madder, then turmeric, then wash. The dots that emerge are why sungudi got its GI tag. Eight sarees a month, no more.
